SC HELP - The South Carolina Homeownership and Employment Lending Program - Funded by the US Department of the Treasury and administered in South Carolina by the SC State Housing Finance and Development Authority, SC HELP is intended to assist homeowners who are facing first mortgage delinquency or possible foreclosure due to circumstances beyond their control like unemployment, underemployment or significant reduction in self- employment income. For some programs, death of a spouse, catastrophic medical expenses and/or divorce may be considered.  There are no fees to apply or participate in SC HELP. US Department of Housing and Urban Development - HUD has a  website with information on avoiding foreclosure and the "Making Home Affordable Program." The site also provides links to helpful programs and services. Find a HUD-Approved Housing Counselor - HUD’s foreclosure prevention online resources also include search tools to get an up to  date list of housing counselors by state, or in South Carolina. Making Home Affordable Program® - The Making Home Affordable Program® is an official program of the US  Departments of Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It is part of the national plan to stablize the US housing market by helping homeowners get mortgage relief and avoid foreclosure. SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center - The South Carolina Appleseed  Legal Justice Center aims through advocacy to be a “voice for those in need” in the state. They provide a range of resources for homeowners and renters, as well as for consumers on issues ranging from hunger and healthcare to Kids at Risk.
